Environmental Learning Center (ELC) – Upper Basin

An Environmental Odyssey – Water Connections

Proposed Environmental Learning Center (ELC) for GBRA's Upper Basin

Undertaking an Environmental Learning Center within GBRA’s 10-county statutory district will be an excellent opportunity to promote the GBRA’s mission and extended interests. The physical facility, exhibits, programs, and staff should reflect efforts by the authority to protect, conserve, reclaim and steward the resources of the district and the Guadalupe River Basin. An ELC will exemplify appreciation and understanding of cultural resources and water resource stewardship.

Financial support is needed for this environmental education endeavor that will be located on a 20-acre tract of land in Comal County adjacent to the natural geological phenomenon known as the Canyon Lake Gorge and near Canyon Reservoir. Naming opportunities will be available for this proposed project.

Major components of the site and multi-building facility include:

  • Trail System
  • Outdoor Classroom One
  • Outdoor Classroom Two
  • Observation Classroom
  • Main Classroom Building
  • Basin Exhibits
  • Exhibit Hall
  • Gardens
  • Rain Roof
  • Conference Hut
  • Guadalupe River Basin Atrium
  • Gorge Tour Orientation and Staging Area
  • Office Building
  • Gift Shop
  • Permeable Parking Lot
